Trust is like a bank account. The more deposits you make the more you can withdraw and if you haven't made any deposits, guess what? That check is going to bounce. This is my philosophy when it comes to the issue of trust. A great deal of the time it isn't the person we perceive that has "done us wrong," but instead ourselves. You can't take big gulps from a shot glass. The sooner people look and see who they are putting their trust in, the better off they will be.

I like your analogy. I tend to trust people until they give me a reason not to, though. While I have been burned a lot of times, I try not to blame people for the transgressions of others.
